Two Beaumont Salons Fined $10,000 For Sanitation Violations
July 26, 2007
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation - Two Beaumont salon owners will each pay a $10,000 fine and have their salon licenses placed on probation for two years after investigators from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) confirmed almost two dozen sanitation violations at the salons.
In addition to the fine, each shop owner agreed to allow TDLR inspectors to collect bacteriological samples from their staff and premises during unannounced quarterly visits for the next year and also to pay for analysis of the samples. They agreed to complete a four-hour health and safety sanitation training course and also require all current employees and employees hired during the next year to also complete the training. This sanitation training must be in addition to the four hours of sanitation training all cosmetologists must complete to renew their licenses. Each shop also will be subject to random, unannounced visits by TDLR inspectors during the probationary period.

Nail Design Tips
Here are some ideas to get you a perfect nail designs from the professional nail designer. Don't use crazy glue to glue decorations to your nails, even over layers of polish! It will eat through polish and can ruin nails. Nail glues are a problem too. The best option may be to use clear polish as glue and then apply a clear coat or two over the decoration and nail to lock it in. Experiment with layers of colors. As usual, make sure each coat is dry before applying the next. Do not mix colors together before application since it seems too messy to bother.
Add depth to some shades, especially metallic colors, by alternating coats with clear polish. Wear cool rings! Why? Because your nails will attract attention to your hands so dress them up a bit!
Stuff to remember about nails
It's important to wipe nails with a cloth before applying polish. Oils left on the nail will keep polish from sticking. When applying polish, be sure to bring it over the front edge of the nail and slightly under the tip. This helps prevent chipping
Florida Makes Fish Pedicures Illegal
Monday, February 23 2009
Florida has made fish pedicures, in which clients place their feet into a tub containing small carp that then ingest the callused areas of clients' feet, illegal in the state. At its January 2009 meeting, the Florida Board of Cosmetology, housed within the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, determined that fish pedicures are not permitted because the pedicures violate two previously standing rules, one that prohibits animals or pets (excluding animals trained to assist the hearing impaired, visually impaired, or the physically disabled), in salons and another that sets the standards for pedicure sanitation requirements. If salons are found performing fish pedicures, the salon and the cosmetologist may be subject to citations and fines.
“Modern-Day Slavery” Alleged at Two Pennsylvania Nail Salons
Monday, December 22 2008
From sometime in 2000 through August 2008, Lynda Dieu Phan and Duc Cao Nguyen, both of New Cumberland, Pa, and Justin Phan, of Tennessee, conspired for Lynda Dieu Phan to travel to Vietnam to recruit victims to work in her York, Pa.-area nail salons, according to a federal indictment released last week by Martin C. Carlson, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and John P. Kelleghan, Special Agent in Charge of the Department of Homeland Security–Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Office of Investigations in Philadelphia.
The indictment alleges that fraudulent marriages were arranged so the victims could gain entry into the United States. Upon entry, the victims were forced to work at Lynda Dieu Phan’s nail salons. “This investigation reveals the disturbing truth that some individuals undertake to exploit helpless victims through modern-day slavery,” said John P. Kelleghan, Special Agent in Charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Philadelphia. “The charges allege that these victims were removed from their country and forced into bondage in the United States so that the defendants could profit.”
The indictment requests the forfeiture of a residential property in New Cumberland; a 2008 Toyota Highlander; contents of two bank accounts; and over $130,000 in cash seized from the residential property in New Cumberland.
If convicted, the defendants could be sentenced to up to 20 years’ imprisonment. This case is being investigated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christy H. Fawcett.
